Technical Communications Department, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY

Assisted in the design and development of an NSF-funded computer-based interactive instruction project in association with the Mechanical Engineering department. Designed and taught a new course in multimedia/hypermedia computer-based instruction design skills to upperclassmen.

GE Plastics, Selkirk, NY

Researched, designed, and programmed a series of multimedia modules to train new employees in the Small Lots area of the plant. Programmed modules using Asymetrix Multimedia Toolbook. Included text, bitmapped graphics, 2-D and 3-D animation, and full motion video. Tested modules using employees in the Small Lots area as well as employees from other areas of the site.


Technical Writing/Editing and Design Experience

GE Plastics, Selkirk, NY

Researched, wrote, and produced Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for the Blending and Color Lab Operations. Maintained all the SOP manuals for the Finishing Operation. Coordinated work between the Training Department, Area Supervisors and technicians. Produced the first draft of Training Modules for the Quality Assurance Operation in conjunction with chemists and technicians. Maintained and updated the On-the-Job Training Guides for the Finishing Operation.

NCR Corporation, Ithaca, NY

Researched, wrote, and produced a series of manuals (User's Guide, Service Guide, and Integrator's Guide) for a new printer product. Coordinated work with two graphic artists. Also researched and installed a new Ventura Desktop Publishing system for the Ithaca Information Products Group.

Shaker Computer and Management Services, Inc., Latham, NY

Edited and redesigned a series of manuals for the COINS® system. COINS is a modular software system covering the accounting, job costing, and estimating functions of the construction industry.


Academic Experience

Distance Education Instructor, Mercer College, Macon, GA (Fall 2001/2002)

Taught a distance education version of Interactive Hypermedia, a course for graduate technical communication students. The course emphasizes the use of interactive media in web sites and CD-ROM development and the usability issues associated with the various types of media. This course was taught primarily through the use of email and a weekly meeting in a chat room on the Mercer WebCT server.

Visiting Assistant Professor, Technical Communications Department, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY (Fall, 1994-Spring, 1995)

Taught three sections of Rhetoric, a writing course for upperclassmen emphasizing organization, use of supporting evidence, and clarity in writing. Designed and taught Introduction to Hypermedia Design, a course for upperclassmen emphasizing design techniques for use when designing online information.

Director, Writing Center, Clarkson University, Potsdam, NY (Fall, 1994-Spring, 1995)

Acted as interim director for the 1994-95 academic year. Responsibilities included scheduling and training twelve undergraduate tutors and assisting faculty with their roles in the Writing Across the Curriculum program. Served on the university Writing Instruction Support Committee.

Taught one section per semester of Expository Writing, a writing course for Freshmen emphasizing organization, use of supporting evidence, and clarity in writing (1990-1992). Taught one section per semester of Technical and Professional Communication, an upper-level communication course covering many aspects of professional communication (1992-1993).

Served as a Writing Consultant for three technical classes per semester, including Experimental Physics, Microprocessor System Design, and Software Design & Documentation (1993-1994).
